Tra Vinh is one of the prettiest towns in the Mekong Delta. A numerous Khmer pagodas have been built in the province. There are about 300,000 ethnic Khmer living in Tra Vinh who speak fluent Vietnamese. The Khmer culture has been parts of Vietnam beauty. These pagodas have schools to teach both Khmer language and Vietnamese. The monks are the followers of Theravada Buddhism. Boys between 15 -20 year old live as monks few months to years in the pagodas. They can themselves decide to lengthen service if they wish. Khmer monks are allowed to eat meat but can not kill animals. Meals are only breakfast and lunch (no dinner). They often walk for service at 10:00 a.m through the streets near by. The rest of the day, monks are taking care and studying at pagoda campus. It can be wonderful to spend a day at one of these pagodas to understand the buddhism here.
